The 2008 World Championship of Punkin Chunkin (in Millsboro, DE)

Ever wonder what happens to all the pumpkins that aren’t sold before Halloween? Get ready to find out at the 2008 World Championship of Punkin Chunkin, where you can watch kids and grown men and women compete to see who can launch a pumpkin the farthest. Competition categories include "Adult Human Power" and "Youth 10 and under Catapult." After the fun of smashing pumpkins, enjoy food and live music. Last year's winner in the Adult Air category launched his third pumpkin more than 4,200 feet. . . . . That's a lot farther than the first winner of this event in 1986, whose pumpkin flew a mere 126 feet. Don't miss the awards ceremony at the end of the day or the chili cook-off at noon.
