Purdue Boilermakers Basketball

Full disclosure: I am a huge Purdue fan.  I would love to see my Boilermakers participating in the Final Four in a few months.  I don't mind referring to Purdue as "us" and "we" when it suits my purposes.  (In case you wondered, this is the sign of a true fan, a delusional fan, or both.) The seventh-ranked Purdue Boilermakers know what they have in veterans such as JaJuan Johnson, Robbie Hummel, and E'Twaun Moore.  What they need to discover is how much support that talented trio can expect from the younger members of this year's team. Robbie Hummel scored 14 points to help No. 7 Purdue beat Kentucky Wesleyan 74-52 on Monday night in its final exhibition game. Freshman Patrick Bade scored 12 points and Ryne Smith added 10 for the Boilermakers, who open regular-season play Friday

1. Feb. 9 at Michigan State. This one is the first of two February meetings between the conference heavyweights, with the national runner-up Spartans opening the season ranked No. 2 in both polls. The Boilermakers have lost nine straight in East Lansing.  

As special as Purdue’s wins against Ohio State and Michigan were, the Boilermakers’ year could have been much more impressive. Purdue lost five straight games by a combined 33 points early in the season, including a two-point loss at Oregon and a three-point loss at home against Notre Dame on a last-minute touchdown.  

The rebounding improved on Monday night. The turnovers, in contrast, were a bit of a concern. Realistically, what new did we learn about Purdue from its two exhibition games? Probably not a whole lot. But all in all, the preseason schedule was a success for the Boilermakers, who won their 15th straight exhibition and improved to 10-0 in such games under coach Matt Painter with a 74-52 victory over traditional Division II power Kentucky...

If the Illini need proof that a 1-5 team can turn around the season in one weekend, they dont need to look much further than the Purdue Boilermakers.
