Australia's Allan Davis will have the chance to make amends for missing the Tour de France in July after he was named in Quick Step's squad for the upcoming Tour of Spain. Davis, a sprinter, was Quick Step's 'tenth man' for the Tour in July but missed out on a place after teammate Tom Boonen was given 11th hour clearance to race despite having tested positive for cocaine, for the second time in his career, two months previously. Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland has won the opening stage of the Spanish Vuelta, a 3-mile time trial on the Assen Moto GP circuit in Netherlands. The Olympic time trial champion clocked 5 minutes, 20 seconds on Saturday to edge Tom Boonen of Belgium by 9 seconds. American Tyler Farrar was third in 5:32. Alexandre Vinokourov, back after serving a ban for blood doping during the 2007 Tour de France, finished seventh, 18 seconds behind Cancellara. Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara of the Saxo Bank team won the Tour of Spain opening prologue on Saturday which took place hundreds of miles away from Spain at Assen's motorcycling circuit in northern Holland. Cancellara, who also won the first stage of the Tour de France this year, covered the 4.8km stage in 5min 20sec, nine seconds ahead of Belgian star Tom Boonen, and 12sec in front of third-placed Tyler Farrar. Specialized dump Quickstep Looks like Tommeke's antics / the prospect of the Accountantriding their bikes was too much for Specialzed so they're dumping Quickstep (who are now likely to become even more Belgian and ride Merckx bikes) So guess that means Specialized think their bucks are best spent on sponsoring big GT teams - Saxo and Astana - which I suppose makes sense given I guess the US is their prime market and so they'll get most...
