Say you need some additional firepower for the latest online shooter and decide to assign three of the four cores of your Intel Quad Core CPU to that single application and run the rest of the applications on the remaining cpu core. That’s a valid scenario don’t you think? It does not have to be a game though, you could assign a cpu intense application to a core and the rest of the applications to another.

From time to time in my writing I have made reference to Moore’s Law ; which, phrased simply, means “the power of computers doubles every 18 months” (some say two years). I like Moore’s Law– smaller, faster, double the power (and often, power consumption is lower too).
Moore’s Law is most often comes up when speaking about CPU ’s (your computer’s “brain”). My first Intel computer ran a very good CPU– a 486 DX (at 133MHz [that's .1GHz]). It had a million transistor on it, and was considered...Read Full Story
Intel is scheduling to launch its first quad-core CPU for laptops, the Core 2 Extreme QX9300, in the 3rd quarter this year with pricing set at a novel high of US$1,038 in thousand-unit tray quantities, as per sources at motherboard makers. With the market insisting for top-level laptops still beneath the average, Intel expects the quad-core notebook CPUs will not turn out to be standard in the performance/majority notebook market until the 2nd half of 2009, and therefore it should not crash...Read Full Story
"Intel and Orange County Choppers combined their mutual know-how and created this monstrosity of a motorcycle—also known as Satan's ride. This isn't the Satan you know, this is the bad-ass futuristic Satan from 2046. The bike has four dual V-twin motors and multiple Intel quad-core processors. What are they for?" Computers and Laptops AMD announced new A-Series desktop processors join a lineup that includes several mobile versions. To date it’s been tough to find real-world systems using the A-Series, but that is about to change. AMD has expanded its A-Series processor line with the first chips designed for desktops. The new chips join a lineup that includes seven mobile A-Series processors announced earlier this month. The A-Series, code-named Llano, is significant because it is AMD’s first processor...Read Full Story
Despite the fact that Intel's desktop Sandy Bridge-E lineup tops out at six cores, most of the chips are based on eight-core silicon. Only needing six working cores out of eight surely improves yields, and disabling the extra cores allows Intel to hit higher clock speeds while staying within the family's 130W thermal envelope. Eight cores require a lot of die area, though. SB-E silicon measures 435 mm², more than double the size of a quad...
Paul O’Brien of MoDaCo has managed to get some information about the upcoming quad-core handset from LG. This handset from LG will be sporting a Tegra 3 processor, pack 1GB of RAM, a mammoth 4.7-inch screen with 720p HD resolution, 16GB of on-board ...
Although Intel's Sandy Bridge-E silicon has eight CPU cores, we've yet to see a desktop chip take advantage of all of 'em. The top-of-the-line Core i7-3960X sports only six cores, as does the 3830K. Only 100MHz and a few MB of cache separate those two chips otherwise—well, that and about $450. The 3960X runs at 3.3GHz, sports 15MB of last-level cache, and costs $1050. Meanwhile, the 3930K is clocked at 3.2GHz with 12MB of cache and a $600...
Although Samsung's Galaxy S III won't appear at Mobile World Congress at the end of February, the device is expected to hit shelves in the first half of 2012. According to South Korea's Electronic Times News, the next-generation Galaxy S will be one of the thinnest smartphones to date and...

Intel plans to ship quad-core processors in November 06 for servers and gaming PCs. Multiple vendors have plans to sell quad-core-based PCs for the high-end gaming market, including Dell and its Alienware division, Gateway, Velocity Micro, and Voodoo.
Extra cores in a chip allows the PC to split up heavy workloads.
Adding more cores to a PC or server helps it compute faster by breaking up the workload.
Intel also plans to maintain current power levels in the new family of
four-core chips, to maintain efficiency. Intel will run the "Core
2 Extreme" chip at 130 watts. The "Core 2 Quad" will run at 100
watts. Additional chips are planned for lower power levels.
