Intel plans to ship quad-core processors in November 06 for servers and gaming PCs. Multiple vendors have plans to sell quad-core-based PCs for the high-end gaming market, including Dell and its Alienware division, Gateway, Velocity Micro, and Voodoo.
Extra cores in a chip allows the PC to split up heavy workloads.
The rumor-mill is in full swing again, buzzing about new MacBook Pros with quad-core processors and ATI Radeon series 4500 graphics chips. Such an upgrade, if true, will result in a notable speed bump over the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and Nvidia 9400/9600M GPU found in the current MacBook Pro generation.
