Imagine going on live TV with your jaw broken in two places and wired shut! That’s what Quintin Laing did with Comcast Sportsnet’s Lisa Hillary during the second intermission of last night’s 2-0 victory over Buffalo. I don’t know how much discomfort Lainger was in, but he managed to smile pretty much throughout the exchange. Hillary asked Lainger about the projected 4-6 week timeframe for his being sidelined, and in customary Lainger fashion he expressed the intent to be back sooner than that. For the wagerers among our readership, a real good bet for the lone available forward spot on the Capitals' roster this season is winger Quintin Laing. You could say that he's paid his dues with the organization -- and then some.  A 4th round draft pick of Detroit in 1997, Laing broke into pro hockey with the Jackson Bandits of the ECHL in 2000, and it's been mostly bus rides for him ever since. The Washington Capitals say forward Quintin Laing has the swine flu, making him at least the third NHL player to be diagnosed with the illness this week. Capitals spokesman Nate Ewell tells The Associated Press that Laing is being treated for H1N1 and is being kept away from the rest of the team. Read Full Story

Quintin Laing's callup to the big club will only last one game.  Mike Vogel has the particulars on the Caps site . Caps left wing Quintin Laing suffered a torn spleen during Thursday night's game with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was admitted to a local Tampa hospital, and a Caps team official will stay in the area with him. The momentum of the contact sort of spun him around, and Laing tried to bite down to make sure everything was ok inside his mouth. And what did he find? "My teeth were all moved over," he said.
