I’ve been so crap at keeping up with all my rss feeds over the past couple of months. All I’ve really managed to do is login to Rojo and “mark as read” all the feeds I am allegedly reading. Half the problem is the actual number of feeds I am currently subscribed to. There must be about 70 of the buggers: anything from the BBC to friends blogs, passing through science and online stuff on the way. I’ve “pruned” the feeds so many times now but I’m still struggling to bring the number down. I think I am going to have to be harsh ... Read Full Story

Review: Megite RSS aggregator service. The ability to read ALL your feeds on one website everyday. I find explaining RSS and feeds to a newbie is as confusing and frustrating as explaining what the Internet was to everyone back in 1994. What is it? How does it work? How is it different than a webpage (or back then, using CompuServe ?). One of the causes of this confusion is how people read RSS feed s. Some use their browsers ( Safari , Firefox and the newest IE all have the ability), others use applications within their browsers ( Bloglines , Netvibes , Google Reader ... Read Full Story
Users of our very own Better GReader Firefox extension have been able to turn on favicon support for their feeds in the Reader sidebar for a while now (a favicon is, for example, the little ‘lh’ that displays next to the address bar when you’re visiting Lifehacker); now the folks on the Reader team have caught up, adding favicon support for your subscriptions. If you haven’t dumped RSS feeds for Twitter completely yet, then there’s a good chance you are a Google Reader user. With Google’s RSS feed app it is possible to bring some organization to your hundreds of feeds by way of folders. But folders only go so far, and you can still end up with [...]

No, seriously, they added magic. As you’ve probably noticed today, Google Reader has added a few new features. The first is the Explore section, just below the People you follow section. Here, Google shows off two sources of new feeds: Popular Items and Recommended Sources. As you might guess, the Recommended Sources feature analyzes your [...]

Filed under: Blogging, Commercial, Social Software, iPhoneFor the last few weeks I've been looking for a suitable RSS reader application for my iPhone. I've found myself frustrated with long-time favourite NetNewsWire (which currently lacks any of the Google Reader sharing options) and the Google Reader web UI. Much like every Twitter client out there, I've bought my fair share of RSS readers for the iPhone and after much testing I have...

Is it possible to temporarily stop Google Reader feeds from updating? I'm going on vacation for a week sans any technology whatsoever except an emergency cell phone, and I don't want to come back to eighty bazillion unread Google Reader items. I know I can "mark all as read" when I get back, but I'd just as soon turn off the information spigot entirely, if that's possible, and turn it back on when I get home. I have about 150 subscriptions...
