How to Move Feeds from FeedDemon / Newsgator to Google Reader

Most of us follow our favorite blogs via RSS Feeds. To keep track of all the blogs, i use FeedDemon on my PC and Newsgator on the Web as a online feed reader.

Both Newsgator and FeedDemon synchronize feeds so, that both are in sync.

Few days back, Newsgator has come up with a news that their Online Feed Reader will no longer be available. This news has caused upset to lot of users who depend on both to keep track of the blogs or news.

You guys might have noticed if you had tried to login to NewsGator account.

Now, to make sure that your feeds both in FeedDemon and Online web Feed Reader in Sync. You need to signup an account in Google Reader and move the Feeds from Newsgator to Google Reader.

How to Move Feeds from Newsgator to Google Reader

1. Sign-up for a Google Reader™ account

   You can use your existing Gmail account to login to Google Reader, so that Google Reader is also attached to the Gmail id you use the most.

2. Export NewsGator RSS Feeds
• Login to NewsGator Online
• Check on the top Nav Bar, you should see Settings. Click on it
• A new page will open, You will see Tabs on the Tab. Click on Edit Locations
  
• Under the NewsGator Web Edition Location, click OPML
• A new page will open. Now Select Expose OPML to all users and click Save Changes button
  
• Click OPML once more. A web page will open which will have OPML URL link. Click on it
• It will open the link in your browser, select File | Save as and save the file with extension .opml

  Now the first task is completed i.e., Exporting RSS Feeds into OPML file from NewsGator.

3. Import your NewsGator RSS OPML to Google Reader
• In Google Reader, click on Settings
• A page will open. Now click on Import/Export link
• Now click on Choose OPML file button and select the OPML file you saved in the previous step.
• Now click on Upload button to import OPML file to your Google Reader
• Google Reader will add all the subscriptions in the list to your account and start checking the feeds for updates

If you have followed the above steps properly, you have successfully transferred all the Feeds from Newsgator to Google Reader.

How to synchronize feeds between Google Reader and FeedDemon

All these days we were able to Synchronize feeds between FeedDemon and Newsgator. This was due to compatibility and understanding between both parties. Now that Newsgator is discontinuing Online Web Feed Reader. FeedDemon new version will be able to keep the feeds in the sync with your Google Reader.

In order to tell FeedDemon to keep the feeds in sync with Google Reader, you need to Download below FeedDemon and install it.
