Rasmussen had a very strong Stage 8 and took the lead in the general classification. He now has 43 seconds over Linus Gerdemann and more than 2 minutes on Iban Mayo and Alejandro Valverde (not to mention several minutes on the bulk of the pack). Rasmussen is now the rider to beat. Rabobank suffers, forced to kick Rasmussen out of the Tour

Michael Rasmussen is out.  Rabobank showed him the door this afternoon. Rasmussen has been under suspicion of doping all year because of 3 missed drug tests.  But now the Rabobank Team discovered that Rasmussen has being lieing about his whereabouts during those missed drug tests and during training sessions. Scandal has surrounded the Tour de France for several years now.  There were numerous allegations against Lance Armstrong, then Floyd Landis failed a drug test in the final days of last year's Tour de France.
