Walker Mill Middle School officials and the Prince George's Health Department confirmed Monday that a 7th grade student died as a result of a bacterial meningitis infection. Bacterial meningitis is characterized by an inflammation of the membranes and fluids around the brain and spinal cord.  

The Duneland Schools has issued an exposure alert that a case of viral meningitis has been reported at Chesterton High School. Viral meningitis, also called aseptic meningitis, is an infection caused by a virus.
