UNIONDALE, N.Y., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The New York Islanders lost veteran defenseman Radek Martinek for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Martinek, 33, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the third period of Friday's 2-1 loss at New Jersey after being hit hard along the boards. The defenseman had two goals and an assist in 16 games this season. He had six goals and four assists in 51 games last season. Zach Parise had two goals, including the winner, and added two assists to help the New Jersey Devils win for the 11th time in 13 games, 4-2 over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night. Jamie Langenbrunner also scored twice, the second into an empty net, and defenseman Paul Martin had three assists as New Jersey beat the Islanders for the fourth time in four games this season.
