Way back in the '80s, when I was in high school, I wanted to be a disc jockey and be involved in radio more than anything in the world. Writing a letter once a week to the program director at the now defunct WBRW-AM in Bridgewater, New Jersey, 15-year-old Roxy begged and pleaded for an internship doing anything at all. After a couple of months, the program director gave in and let me start work at the radio station after school.

While I helped out in all areas of the radio station -- bookkeeping/accounts receivable, traffic (keeping track of when commercials ran, not getting up in a helicopter to report on traffic jams), sales, news, and music -- I spent most of my time in the commercial production/creative department as an advertising copywriter, writing and producing 30 to 60-second ads for local retailers. By the summer of 1983, when the copy director moved to an on-air position, I had been promoted to copy director and earned $200/week working full-time for the next year and a half until I left for college. I bet you can tell from some of my posts here at Roxiticus Desperate Housewives that I miss those days of writing commercials for a living.
