Top 10 Active Former Mariners: No.10 Randy Winn

This month we will be counting down our Top 10 active former Mariners, these are players who we believe would help the Mariners out if they ever dawned an M's uniform again....

Played for the Mariners from 2003-2005

How the Mariners ended up with him:
The Mariners received Winn as compensation for Lou Piniella's exit from Seattle to Tampa Bay

Why we miss him:
Randy Winn was an all-around solid player for the Mariners. As a switch hitter he was versatile at the plate and provided a constant left-handed bat. In the outfield he was above average and was the second best defender on the team at the time to Ichiro. Winn also had above-average speed which translated into scoring opportunities for the Mariners offense.

Where is he now?
In 2005 Winn was traded to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Yorvit Torrealba and Jesse Foppert. The Mariners ended up trading Torrealba the same season and Foppert ended up being released in 2007, having never made the major league squad. Randy Winn is still playing for the San Francisco Giants and has enjoyed success as their starting left fielder. He has especially been great on the defensive end for the Giants.
