With the passing of Giants' Principle Owner Sue Burns earlier this year, is San Francisco Giants' current ownership, led by Bill Neukom, in trouble?
Where there's smoke, there is or at least maybe some fire. The Giants are in a slow motion back peddle on their specific commitment to winning in a specific timeline and how much they can spend...even with contracts off the books of Bengie Molina, Randy Winn, and more.
Now, it's still possible the...

A team with Velez doesn't need Torres. A team with Torres doesn't need Velez. I don't get the need for both, especially when keeping them both means that the 2009 Giants will be the first team in the history of baseball to have a middle-of-the-order, key component position player as their only backup catcher. If I'm forced to choose between Velez or Torres, it's an easy decision. Both are crazy fast. Both can't play second. Both are coming...

Randy Winn entering Free Agency
"Giants Manager Bruce Bochy loved Winn, and that might explain why the front office won’t look to bring him back in a reserve outfielder role. Even if they were to re-sign Winn to get 200 at-bats as a reserve, Bochy might be tempted to play him more often."

Randy Winn and JT Snow pep-talk the youngins
This article gives me hope that Randy will stick around in the Giants organization. I think it's been brought up before that he might be a good minor league manager or coach of some kind. I've always loved Randy, his offensive decline notwithstanding.
(PS: I know I've posted more than my share of fanshots recently. I'm sorry. It's all that's keeping me from rosterbating till my hands fall off.)

It’s a jungle out there
We could be wrong now, but we don’t think so!
While his production tailed off, nobody could dispute that Winn was a good Giant. He played hurt without complaint and got himself ready to be on the field every day. He gave a consistent effort. He’s a smart defensive player and baserunner. Those are the kinds of things managers appreciate most in players. From a beat writer’s perspective, he was accessible and his dry...

Our contestants are:
Jermaine Dye: the most likely choice. Hits for decent power, and might still have a 25-30 home run season in him at ATT Park. Definite upgrade from Randy Winn
Johnny Damon: Yankee speedster. Will not hit for more than 10 home runs at ATT Park, but still: upgrade from Randy Winn
Vladimir Guerrero (did i spell it right): A man who may never play on the field ever again without getting injured. Will probably play 23 games...

According to a blog by Andy Baggarly, the Giants have informed Randy Winn that his services would no longer be needed by the Giants. Giants ThoughtsFirst off, thank you to Randy Winn for his many years of service to the Giants. Good luck in your future endeavors and hopefully you can make the playoffs with another team, though, of course, should you face the Giants in the playoffs, I hope you don't do so well.Andy opined that this move might...

With day two of the MLB winter meetings winding up, there really isn't much new to talk about on the Giants front. The new name of the day Tuesday was Kevin Kouzmanoff, as apparently the Giants and Padres have discussed a possible deal that could land the third-basemen in San Francisco. The names being discussed on the Giants end have been Fred Lewis and Kevin Frandsen, neither of whom appear to be much in the Giants plans heading into 2010...
