The Bachelorette Recap - 6/29/09

The Bachelorette, Jillian Harris, got two surprise visits in tonight’s episode (6/29/09) in which she was visiting five suitors’ hometowns.  Ed, who voluntarily left the show to go back to work, returned to ask Jillian for another chance.   Jake stopped by Jillian’s hotel room when she was visiting Wes in Texas and told Jillian that Wes had a girlfriend.

And then there were four:

• Reid, a 30-year-old real estate agent from Philadelphia
• Kiptyn, a 31-year-old California business developer
• Ed, a 29-year-old technology consultant from Chicago
• Wes, a 32-year-old musician from Texas

Leaving the show:

Jesse, a 27-year-old wine maker from California

Michael, a 25-year-old New York break-dancing instructor

When Ed returned to Los Angeles, he knocked on Jillian’s door.   Ed confessed to making a mistake and wanted another shot.  Jillian admitted to thinking about Ed but he would have to come to the rose ceremony when she would make her decision.

On her hometown date to Texas to visit Wes, Jillian was surprised when Jake stopped by her hotel room.   Jake told Jillian that Wes had a girlfriend named Laurel. 

“It’s humiliating,” Jillian said. “I’m really upset, and I’m just really disappointed,” Jillian said.

Jillian confronted Wes when he came to the hotel room. The first concern Wes had was who told Jillian.   After Jillian said Jake made the accusation, Wes denied it.

Wes said Laurel was a past girlfriend and they were still good friends, but they no longer had a romantic relationship.

Jillian had Jake and Wes meet and discuss it.  Wes told Jake that he was lying.

 Jillian seemed torn about whether or not to believe Wes, but she decided to meet his family.   Because of Jake’s surprise visit, Jillian and Wes were late for dinner. They explained the situation to his family and his sisters were quick to say that guys were always jealous of Wes.

“He’s going to tell you the truth. I feel like he would have stepped out of this process if he wasn’t really feeling feelings for you,” mom Renee said.

After calling Jake a backstabber, Wes said “Jillian likes me, and that’s what really what matters.”

Previously Jillian traveled to San Diego to meet 31-year-old Kiptyn’s family.

Kiptyn’s family had a joke prepared for Jillian. His parents put caution tape around the backyard hot tub in reference to her last season on “The Bachelor” where she and Jason Mesnick spent a lot of time soaking. His parents also tested Jillian’s dining knowledge with a lasagna and wine taste test. She had to choose which of two lasagnas was made by Kiptyn’s dad and which was store-bought. She also had to pick the wine that best matched the dish. She passed.

“Kiptyn’s family is very polished, educated and refined… they might just think I’m a total hillbilly,” Jillian said.

Jillian visited Jesse in Carmel, Calif. at his family’s winery. Jesse’s brother confided that Jesse is an emotional ice cube sometimes… I haven’t seen anybody yet who’s been able to crack his shell,” Jacob confided in Jillian when she said that she and Jesse got off to a slow start. (I wonder if that had anything to do with Jesse getting kicked off).

On Jillian’s visit to Michael’s home, Michael and his identical twin brother tried to trick Jillian by switching clothes, but she immediately caught on to the joke.

Jillian’s first visit of the show was with Reid and his family. “It took our relationship to a new level,” Jillian said.
