Summary: Rebecca Bogard was a 27-year-old teacher at the Center for New Opportunities, a public school in Biloxi that is "changing the face of alternative education one child at a time!" Bogard -- who was elected the Shrimp Bowl Queen in 1997 -- was arrested after a male 15-year-old student's mother found sexually explicit text messages from a woman named "Dawn" on her son's cell phone. One read: "I love you, yeah it was the best, which night was the best 4 you, I’m sensitive but not sore, you were good..." Before her arrest, Bogard had taken the student Christmas shopping, telling his mother that they were attending a school function. The student had previously been fired from a job at a local restaurant, due to complaints that he would leave his job for extended breaks, during which he was observed getting into a white Jaguar driven by Bogard with license plates that read "GRRRRR." Bogard was indicted in September of 2008 on charges of exploitation of a child, touching of a child for lustful purposes and statutory rape. As of this writing, she remains free on a $50,000 bond, with no trial date set.
