Let Us Remember
April 1912...8 Miles Today.... It was cool today, about 38 degrees but for walking Forrest had a very uneventful morning except for the young lady backing out of her driveway while talking on her cell phone. Forrest saw her but she never realize he was there. She could have made toothpicks out of Forrest if she had run over him. My journey would have ended in Belfast Ireland. My destiny is to write about Ireland, so that's my mission. Like today's song on my blog "My Heart Go On For Ever". Forrest has made it downtown Belfast. FYI, Belfast has a sister city in the United States,,,,,time is up......It's Nashville, Tennessee. The weather today in sunny 56 degrees. The city has a population or 270,000 with all of the metropolitan Belfast, approximately 725,000 reside here. `Of course everyone knows by now that the RMS Titanic was build here. But did you know that the Titanic, had 2 sister ships.....The Olympic (1911) The Britannic (1914). The Titanic was lost in April 1912, (iceberg) The Britannic was lost (1916 torpedo or mine) and the Olympic lived out her life and went to scrap in 1937. All three ships were built at the Harland and Wolff Shipyard.. The City of Belfast by the time the Titanic was built had the world's largest shipbuilding industry. At its peak the Harland and Wolff Shipyard was building a ship a week and employed as many as 35,000 workers. Forrest wrote about the Michigan/Titanic connection in his blog post of January 9, 2009. Michigan lost 63 souls to Titanic tragedy, most of which had the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as their final destination. More on Belfast in the coming days. So until then I bid you a temporary goodbye from Belfast, Ireland. God Bless Walk Forrest Walk
