Associated Press – November 21, 2009 8:24 PM ET RENO, Nev. (AP) – A storm has brought up to 15 inches of snow to the Sierra Nevada and smiles to the faces of skiers and snowboarders. The Boreal resort atop Donner Summit reports 12 to 15 inches of new snow, while the Alpine Meadows resort just north of Lake Tahoe reports 8 to 10 inches of new snow. The Squaw Valley USA and Northstar-at-Tahoe resorts opened for the season today. The Boreal and Mt. Rose resorts opened earlier. Lake Tahoe, CA/NV - Winter blasted into North Lake Tahoe Friday when temperatures plummeted and a powerful storm hit the region late afternoon and into the evening. When all was said and done, Tahoe ski resorts woke up this morning to 10 inches of new snow at their upper elevations, just as many launched their ski and snowboard seasons.
