Palin Attacks Obama's Inexperience, Fails to See Irony

Seeing fit to throw rocks in a glass house, Governor Sarah Palin let loose the assault on Barack Obama's lack of experience Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention.

Playing the attack dog, Palin riled up a packed house in Minneapolis by criticizing Senator Barack Obama without mentioning him by name -- a tactic similarly used by Fred Thompson in his speech Tuesday night.

"Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown," she explained. "And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves.

"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."

Obama is known to have been a Chicago community organizer in the early days of his political career in the 1980s.

This VP attack-dog strategy might have worked if McCain had gone with a candidate who in the 1980s wasn't still competing in beauty pageants. Palin has held two offices: mayor of a town with less than 10 thousand people and governor of Alaska for two years.

Someone should have told McCain there's a difference between a rising star and a wannabe who hasn't yet paid her dues.

I will say this for Palin: She can talk. Palin, with her thick northern accent and fiery style, has a natural way with an audience that could give her an edge in her debates with Joe Biden. Palin reportedly spent around 13 hours locked up with some of the GOP's top speech writers coming up with her spitfire RNC speech. But that doesn't make the words any less hypocritical.

Coming from the lips of Fred Thompson last night, arguments against Obama's inexperience seemed credible. Coming from Sarah Palin they seemed absurd.
