Resident Evil: Extinction is the 3rd movie in a trilogy based on the popular Capcom game series Resident Evil.

The film was directed by Russell Mulcahy and produced by Paul Anderson.

The movie stars Milla Jovovich, Mike Epps, Sienna Guillory, Ashanti Douglas, Ali Larter, Chris Egan, and Oded Fehr.

Resident Evil 5 to Reboot Film Franchise

“While it’s a long, long, long way off, the idea is to redo the story of a special military unit who fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident.” That is the quote today from Bloody-Disgusting who is reporting that after Resident Evil: Afterlife, which is set for an August 27, 2010.

Sony’s Screen Gems is also looking ahead to reboot the franchise as well. The 5th film is tentatively titled Resident Evil Begins and the film is described as a “quasi-reboot.”

I this is Sony’s new turnover plan they seem to have the same idea for Spider-man and now Resident Evil. I do not think it is a bad thing. You can reboot the series while ending the current storyline and didn’t think the first 3 films were that great. I just played Resident Evil 5 on X-Box 360 and I actually like the storyline for that game and I am wondering why the film’s can’t use the VG templates for a good story.

I.E. - In the first VG the plot centered on a series of bizarre murders have occurred on the outskirts of Raccoon City, with signs of cannibalism on the victims’ remains. The Raccoon Police Department’s Special Tactics And Rescue Service (STARS) are assigned to investigate the murders, which is comprised of two teams, Alpha and Bravo. Bravo Team is sent first, but after contact with them is lost, the city’s officials deploy Alpha Team to investigate their disappearance. Not to mention there is some great novelization of the games that were made and like the Stuart Beattie Halo arugument, Resident Evil could have the same treatment there.  S.D. Perry has written novelizations of the first five games, as well as two original novels taking place in between games stories. Her seven titles are:

  • The Umbrella Conspiracy, a novelization of the first game.
  • Caliban Cove, an original novel set after the first game.
  • City of the Dead, a novelization of Resident Evil 2.
  • Underworld, another original novel set after Resident Evil 2
  • Nemesis, a novelization of the third installement of the franchise.
  • Code: Veronica, a novelization of the homonymous game.
  • Zero Hour, a novelization of the prequel game.
The plot described in the quote above sounds a lot like the prequel book written titled “Zero Hour,” where the terrifying prequel tale to the Resident Evil videogame saga took us to where it all began. The story revolves around a paramilitary strike team investigates a possible biohazard outside Racoon City. What they find there is gruesome: an overturned military transport truck riddled with corpses and that is just the beginning of their nightmare. Bravo Team is about to discover the evil that is growing all around them and one rookie member, Rebecca Chambers, is wondering what she might have got herself into.
