July 7, 2008
Providence, Rhode Island (RUSHPRNEWS) 7/7/08 - - Winners of the first annual ‘Real Rhode Islander’ charity calendar contest to benefit the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation were named Saturday in front of a packed crowd of onlookers and finalists at Monet Lounge in Providence.
Thirty winning contestants, 15 men and 15 women made the final cut out of 60 finalists and will appear in two distinct official 2009 calendars. Sales of those calendars will benefit the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.
Rhode Islanders to be included on the charity calendars are:
Coventry’s Michael J. Baccari; Cranston’s Cheryl Howard, Danny Poulos, Lareto Guglietta; East Providence’s Omar Meer; Gloucester’s Carol Ventura, Bob Ventura; Johnston’s Gail Gutierres, Steven Capaldi; Narragansett’s Cheryl Cusick, Jonathan Segal;
North Kingstown’s Jenny Vingi; North Providence’s Jane Bernardino, Jay Jones, Shane Michael Piche; Pawtucket’s Tracie Bourget; Providence’s Andrew Reis, Jeffrey V. Leechman, Mallory Palumbo; Richmond’s Spogga Hashway; Tiverton’s Jasmine Zen-Mah; Wakefield’s Michelle Mitchell; Warwick’s Ashley Flynn, Frank Pantaleo, Melissa Morales, Richard Cassella; West Warwick’s Christina Pimentel, Giovanni Calise; Westerly’s Yvonne Perez; Woonsocket’s Shauna Fontaine.
Contestants between the ages of 21 and 60 were judged during nearly 100 live interviews on the successes they portrayed, the goodness of their “inner being,” their positive impact on the community and their photogenic qualities. They had to live in Rhode Island to qualify, and many contestants, although not required, were either cancer survivors or had family members that suffered from the disease.
The ‘Real Rhode Islander’ charity calendars will be released for sale in time for Breast Cancer awareness month in October 2008. They will be available at all Tim Hortons, Curves, Brown book store, online and other locations to be announced. The calendar will sell for $19.99 and proceeds raised will benefit the Gloria Gemma Cancer Research Foundation.
