Brunch With the Elephants

From:  rirepublican.com
On a lighter note...my class and I took a walk to the Dunkin Donuts Center for "Brunch" with the elephants from Ringling Brothers Circus.  The elephants feasted on a wonderful selection of apples, watermelons, lettuce, and bread.  It was a lot of fun to watch, and the kids loved it.  Since I'm a Republican, I couldn't miss the chance to post pictures of the elephants.  Enjoy! Borden Light

We took a sail last weekend from the beach in Swansea and the wind took us to Fall River and the opportunity to take this series of photographs of the Borden Flats Light. They're arranged in a "photosynth" which will slide you from one photo to another in slideshow fasion. The Borden Flats Lighthouse has been warning ships of underwater hazards where Mount Hope Bay meets the Taunton River since 1875, and doing it well by all accounts. It's not much to look at but hey, it is a lighthouse and... Read Full Story

From:  rirepublican.com
It took two trials, but Robert Urciuoli was finally sentenced today.  The former President of Roger Williams Medical Center was sentenced to three years.  He will report to prison on June 15th.  If the charges weren't so serious, some of the statements made in this trial would have been hilarious.  Here are some examples: Urciuoli's lawyers have asked that he be placed in a halfway house , noting that Urciuoli did not violate a public oath like Celona and that any illegal acts were to... From:  rirepublican.com
Tom Sgouros of RI Policy Reporter acclaim takes a look at census data which shows that in 2008, Rhode Island along with Michigan, were the only states with a net loss in population. As with many of his analyses, I don’t argue the numbers with Tom but his inferences of those numbers. He writes : So, it seemed worth turning over some rocks. Brown University's Faculty Will Not Observe Columbus Day

From:  rirepublican.com
Brown University's faculty has voted to stop observing Columbus Day because of " the nature of Christopher Columbus's conquests and treatment of Native Americans."    The way things stand now, Columbus Day will be replaced with a floating holiday which will coincide with "Fall Weekend."  Initially, the University was considering holidays named "Heritage Day", or my personal favorite, "Indigenous Day."  That really has a ring to it.      Brown University is named after the Brown family...
