PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (AP) — A lawmaker defended Rep. Patrick Kennedy on Monday against a bishop who has acknowledged asking the Rhode Island congressman not to receive Holy Communion because of his support for abortion rights.  

Rhode Island health authorities are reporting two more deaths due to swine flu. Carol Hall-Walker, a spokeswoman for the state health department, says two women between the ages of 45 and 55 died Sunday and Monday. Both were from Providence County and both had underlying illnesses.
