(I had VERY little AV kit with me) and that the discussion was all arranged on very short notice.- basically for a one man army there are limits to the things you can pull off. Richard Dawkins is of course a big name in the defenders of science, publishing several best selling books and started [...]

Does Beliefnet publish just anything? Exhibit A for the affirmative would be the post by David Klinghoffer titled The Cowardice of Richard Dawkins. Klinghoffer, a prominent cheerleader for the “intelligent design” creationism (IDC) movement, is incensed that Dawkins would spend time in one of his books responding to Wendy Wright of Concerned Women of America, [...]

Richard Dawkins is an important writer, with solid scientific credentials. He is the author of a number of books (see the link in the previous sentence). He happens to be an outspoken atheist. One of his books is The God Delusion. The title apparently describes Dawkins' belief and message. (I haven't read the book, although I have read some other books by Dawkins, and found them worthwhile.)The first book I finished reading in 2010 was The...

He insisted on absolute clarity about the question we were asking in our research. I recall how shocked I was on visiting our sister research group at Madingley in Cambridge, and one of the graduate students began to tell of his research with the words “What I do is . . .” I had to restrain myself from imitating Niko's voice: “Ja ja, but what is your question?

The Independent has been giving away little booklets called "A Pocket History of the World." The "Classical" section spends 1,500 words dealing with the early history of Christianity:"...Jesus was an enlightened charismatic who made a virtue out of poverty and lectured on the benefits of non-violence. His message was simple: be peaceful, love your neighbour as yourself; if someone strikes you on one cheek, do not hit back but offer then the...

One of the hazards of being a public intellectual is that sooner or later someone will write a book disputing everything you’ve said. And Richard Dawkins is not just any public intellectual but the cream of the crop, voted in 2004 the foremost of that disparate ilk by readers of Prospect magazine. A prime target, then, for the wet-sponge treatment.

Filed under: Religion, Education, DisputationsIs Richard Dawkins getting soft? It's hard to believe that the leading exponent of a brash new school of pugnacious atheism would somehow, miraculously, transform into the soul of charity. But consider the evidence: Dawkins says, for one thing, that he is tired of rehashing the forceful -- many would say withering -- arguments against religion he made in his bestselling book, "The God Delusion...

I was on early in tonight's Godless show as I had a wedding celebration to get to. I was going on second after the esteemed and revered God-like atheist Richard Dawkins. Only at a Robin Ince gig could something like this happen. Dawkins was my warm up man! It could be the title of my next show.  Robin Ince introduced me from the off stage mic saying "That was Richard Dawkins the writer of "The Selfish Gene" and now the writer of "Talking Cock...

William Lane Craig is not only one of the world’s leading Christian apologists but he has actually made outstanding original contributions to philosophy. Yes, Craig publishes popular-level books. Unlike Dawkins, however, who in 20-years plus has been purely a popularizer (of Darwinian evolution, materialist science, and atheism), Craig continues to publish at the highest levels of the academy addressing scholars of the highest caliber (and...

I think it's very funny that they chose children from a Christian family. I don't know for sure if they actually are Christian, yet, only the children know. But I don't think it's okay to label them that way. It's not gonna hurt the child. If it is the truth it will show later. If they are really not Christian it will be revealed when they get older. Also I am Christian and if it really is the truth...Uncommon Descent (subscribe) : Happy...

Richard Dawkins’s heart leaps up as high as any Romantic poet’s when he beholds a rainbow. But he has taken issue with Keats’s complaint that when scientists “unweave” a rainbow they spoil it. Mike King in Postsecularism ripostes that Dawkins is trying to “arrogate to science what is the proper domain of a quite different human impulse – the poetic and mystical”. The reason why the rainbow moves us is that it is “unexpected, vivid, and...
