Richard Gere's acting career started wtih American Gigolo and was solidified with An Officer and a Gentleman in the early 1980s. Gere is also well-know for his activism, especially heading the movement to free Tibet from Chinese occupation, improve human rights for Tibetan nationals and allow the safe return of its exiled leader, the Dalai Lama. In fact, after an acceptance speech condemning China's actions in Tibet, the Academy of Motion Pictures told Gere, something to the effect, you will never be on this stage again. Having met the Dalai Lama in person, Gere says that the meeting had a huge impact on him (Gere is now a practicing Buddhist).
Other Gere blockbusters include Pretty Woman, Internal Affairs, and the film version of Chicago. In his latest film, The Hoax, he stars as Clifford Irving, and he's got four movies in the can taking him into 2008.

India courts have lifted Richard Gere’s warrant for arrest which started back in April of 2007 when Gere kissed Shilpa Shetty.
Gere should have known better to respect other country’s culture but this whole arrest thing was stupid as well.
