Robert John Downey Jr. is an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning American actor and sometimes, musician. His breakout role was a movie called Less Than Zero, where he played a high-society yuppie burnout – the movie was a self-fulfilling prophecy. Or so it seemed for a while. He eventually cleaned up and starred on the television series Ally McBeal as well as in a number of supporting and lead film roles, including the blockbuster smash, Iron Man.
London residents hit back Thursday at British filmmaker Guy Ritchie and the celebrities that frequent his pub, with the local council slapping restrictions on their nocturnal partying. Residents of London's upmarket Mayfair neighbourhood complained that The Punch Bowl hotel had been transformed into a rowdy party venue since Ritchie, the former husband of pop star Madonna, took ownership in May 2008. Celebrities, paparazzi and crowds flocked to the pub, with residents complaining of broken... Read Full Story
What a pleasure it was to sit and watch Sherlock Holmes . No lasers, super-powers, political agendas, 3-D effects. Just a rollicking tale, well-acted and directed.
Well, OK, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) is a super-hero of the James Bond, semi-realistic kind; except that Sherlock trades the ability to bed foreign spies for a more-developed sense of perception and steel-trap logic.
And, the scenes of Sherlock deducing stuff are as good as one could have hoped for. Sherlock... Read Full Story
Review in a Hurry: Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are effortlessly charming as a more action-oriented Holmes and Watson than we’re used to. They belong in a better movie than the one Guy Ritchie has actually made.
The Bigger Picture: For the first half hour or so of this new big-screen adventure featuring the literary world’s most famous detective, all seems to be going right. Hans Zimmer’s score is so perfect you’ll think it has always been Holmes’ theme, Downey’s take on Sherlock as... Read Full Story

I’ll admit it, I have no idea what really happens in Sherlock Holmes . It’s one of the few movies where the audience doesn’t figure everything out up front and then wait through an hour or so of filler just to see it all play out as predicted. The plot’s confusing and convoluted, but refreshingly so. Does it make sense? I don’t know, but it doesn’t matter since getting to the end of the story and the final reveal is a whole lot of fun
What’s absolutely obvious even to me, having admitted I... Read Full Story

This is Robert Downey Jr. entering the Ed Sullivan Theatre, about to appear on The Late Show last night. This purple scarf is doing something to my brain. RDJ looks really, really f-cking hot here. Not only that, but on the show I’m pleased to say that Downey was the most subdued he’s been in months. Of course, Downey’s “most subdued” is still pretty manic compared to most people, but RDJ seems like a really cool guy once he’s not chattering like a monkey. Anyway, it seemed like David... Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr said he often hung out with director Guy Ritchie at his London pub during shooting.
