Ronald Curry On His Way Out Of Oakland
In light of losing Javon Walker to injury, the Raiders benched Ronald Curry this week despite his best performance of the ‘08 season this past Sunday. The receiver had 6 grabs for 73-yards but will nonetheless see the pine this upcoming week. Curry, startled on the move, doesn’t plan to return next season:
I’m still thinking my future’s not here. I’m going to go out here, play these last six games, give what I’ve got for this team, for this organization… It means a lot, having the approval of your peers when they see the work that I put in, and see the type of player I am, and they see the situation unfold. For the last couple of years, I’ve been one of the most consistent players here. For them to come in and treat me the way they treated me the last couple of weeks is B.S.
Well I’m right there with yah Ronald. After the ageless wonders of Jerry Rice and Tim Brown, the Raiders list of failed wide receiver experiments include the likes of Mike Williams, Jerry Porter, Randy Moss, and company. Ronald Curry has been the most consistent receiver in the past three seasons and we will soon bid adieu to another receiver.
A former starting point guard for North Carolina, Curry had some amazing grabs with the Raiders. Unfortunately, consistency wasn’t a part of his game. For Curry had as many dropped passes that hit him right on the chest as amazing one-handed catches in the snow (reference: 2002 Denver).
But as Curry and the Raiders go their separate ways, Curry will be missed, and the following is a few of Curry’s best plays as a Raider.
