Over $35,000 raised from the 1200 items contributed of goods, services and home made items in the Houlton Maine Rotary 53rd Radio/TV/Internet Auction. An extra $10,000 on top of that final tally above and beyond to make a dent in the new seating budget for the Houlton Maine Performing Arts Center too! The Houlton Maine Rotary Club is part of district 7810 . One of the biggest fund raisers the Houlton Rotary Club has done for over 50 years is the fall auction. Over $50,000 worth of items are collected, labeled and marketed thru a newspaper supplement listing the treasures. Thru the local WHOU radio, Polaris Cable And on line with help from Pioneer Wireless, the local Houlton Rotarians push the product and have fun doing it in a local community down home sort of way. Looking Down The... Meduxnekeag River in Downtown Houlton Maine. Now that's a setting. The east end of the Houlton Maine foot bridge will lead to a new housing project in the Shiretown. Over 2.5 million to be invested in the Market Square parking lot development. Coastal Enterprises , the owner of the complex, will offer units to residents meeting eligibility guidelines. The first week of May, the annual Meduxnekeag River Canoe Race with lots of water volume this year will happen in Houlton Maine. Heavier than normal snows mean no shortage of water for the race in Aroostook County. Paddlers from around New England and Atlantic Canada take canoes, kayaks, boats and rafts down the the river named by local Maliseet Indians. "Meduxnekeag" means rocks at its mouth. Young Malaysians interested to visit Britain can participate in the Group Study Exchange program offered by The Rotary International District 3300.
The visit takes place for about four to six weeks, between February and March 2009.
Additionally, the same group of students will also get an opportunity to go to South Korea between April and May 2006.
