WHITE PLAINS, New York (Reuters) - Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik pleaded guilty on Thursday to lying to White House officials and tax evasion charges in a deal that could send him to prison for almost three years. Kerik, who as head of the police department stood beside former Mayor Rudy Giuliani at the time of the September 11, 2001, attacks, also admitted receiving apartment renovations from a construction firm suspected of organized crime ties and that he helped the company win city contracts. Once considered a star in law enforcement and national security, Kerik saw his career unravel when President ... Read Full Story
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik was jailed on Tuesday when a federal judge revoked his bail a week before his trial on conspiracy and fraud charges was due to begin. The judge agreed to a request to jail Kerik for leaking sealed information to a legal defense fund-raiser -- information the fund-raiser shared with the Washington Times newspaper. Kerik was a close friend of former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and was New York's police commissioner the day of the September 11, 2001, attacks. His career began to unravel upon being subjected to background checks when President George W. ... Read Full Story

Former New York police chief Bernard Kerik was jailed Tuesday after a federal judge revoked his bail ahead of a corruption trial, court sources said. In a hearing in White Plains, New York, Judge Stephen Robinson said he was revoking the 500,000-dollar bail granted Kerik, 54, who led the police under the previous administration of then-mayor Rudolph Giuliani. Kerik abused confidential evidence in the case, Robert Hadad, spokesman for the district attorney's office, told AFP. "The government made a motion to revoke his bail. After a three-and-a-half hour hearing, the judge agreed to revoke the bail in order for him be sent to jail," ... Read Full Story

The terror attack on the World Trade Center, which made New York City's police commissioner a national figure, may not be brought up by the defense at his corruption trial, a federal judge ruled Tuesday. "This is not about 9/11," Judge Stephen Robinson said at a pretrial conference. He said the attack was irrelevant to allegations that former Commissioner Bernard Kerik accepted apartment renovations from a construction company in exchange for recommending the company for city contracts. The government had requested that the defense not be allowed to bring up 9/11, apparently because it would prejudice jurors in Kerik's favor. Kerik received heavy publicity, ... Read Full Story

While we have seen a bundle of potential 2012 Presidential candidates either endorse or campaign on Bob McDonnell's behalf in Virginia, I believe Giuliani campaigning for McDonnell is either to raise his political profile amongst a fellow Republican Gubernatorial candidate who is all but secured a victory at this point, or Giuliani is attempting to expand a fundraising base for a possible run at the United States Senate. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/local/66981717.html A Republican victory in Virginia next week would send a national message that "enough is enough" on the expanding federal government, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Wednesday. In a short speech at ... Read Full Story
