Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani says electing a Republican to the Senate seat formerly held by Edward Kennedy would signal that voters believe the nation is going in the wrong direction in the fight against terrorism. Giuliani came to Boston as a new poll showed a statistical tie between Republican Scott Brown and the Democratic nominee in Tuesday's special election, Martha Coakley. The Suffolk University survey reshaped the closing weekend of the campaign, which the Democrats had expected to win in this heavily Democratic state. Losing the seat would cost the Democrats their 60-vote coalition in the Senate, essential to countering Republican opposition ... Read Full Story

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani says President Barack Obama "turned the corner" on understanding terrorism when he publicly declared the U.S. at war. But in an interview Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America," Giuliani also said he thinks Obama still has to pursue the problem as if on a war footing, the government must treat detainees as enemy combatants, not criminal defendants. He accused the administration of too quickly ending interrogation of the Nigerian indicted in the Christmas bombing attempt aboard a Northwest Airlines flight. Giuliani, who was New York's mayor when terrorists struck on Sept. 11, 2001, said, "Why in God's name ... Read Full Story

I know we all have probably seen or heard this comment by now, but I looked at it again this morning, next to a photo of Giuliani's face, in which he looks... well, either smug or somewhat incredulous, and I don't know whether to laugh at the sheer ludicrous nature of the false statement, or to worry about him having Alzheimers or a problem figuring simple math. "We had no domestic attacks under Bush; we've had one under Obama." When you're finished ROFL, consider Giuliani's spokesman's assertion that he was "clearly talking post-9/11" (from TIME, January 12, 2010) Clear as a good cup of ... Read Full Story
