Rupert Murdoch is half right

From:  pundit.net
I’m glad to see Rupert Murdoch come out so strongly against government intervention in the media. Some lawmakers have suggested that the media might need government assistance due to the effect of the internet on the changing industry. One idea involved converting newspapers to nonprofit organizations. Murdoch is right to criticize these types of ideas, along with regulations which prevent companies from owning newspapers and TV stations in the same market. It’s funny how government hampers... Google is being unfairly scapegoated by newspaper publishers, and wants to help the troubled industry build online revenue, the chief executive of the Internet giant said. "With dwindling revenue and diminished resources, frustrated newspaper executives are looking for someone to blame," Google CEO Eric Schmidt said in an opinion column published on Thursday in The Wall Street Journal. Rupert Murdoch: Government Should Stay Out Of Journalism

From:  thehotjoints.com
News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch has an excellent editorial in today’s Wall Street Journal about the state of journalism and the media today. He says media organizations who innovate and embrace new technologies will thrive and those who do not will go out of business. Companies that do not produce a product consumers want are supposed to go out of business. What we don’t need, says Murdoch, is for the government to get involved and prop up failing news organizations. Technology now... Read Full Story

All eyes on Murdoch as newspapers ponder digital future

From:  afp.com
Is Rupert Murdoch bluffing? Making a bold high-stakes gamble that will save the troubled newspaper industry? Or pursuing a pipe dream that can only end in failure? The News Corp. chairman has prompted a fierce debate among media watchers with his accusation that Google is "stealing" from his vast newspaper empire and his threat to block the search engine from accessing its content. The 78-year-old Murdoch has already announced plans to make readers pay to read his newspapers online but his... Read Full Story

Google Changes The Game For Publishers

Just yesterday, Rupert Murdoch threw another stone at Google . But before Murdoch had cocked back his hand to throw, Google had announced a solution that should make Murdoch happy, though it probably won’t. There are two aspects of Google’s announcement that are important to both publishers and to searchers: Google has expanded its First Click Free program to allow publishers to allow up to five clicks free per day for any user who accesses its protected pages from Google. More on that... Read Full Story

Rupert Murdoch: Pugnacious [Fights]

From:  mypurediet.com
Rupert Murdoch is simply a man who likes to fight. End of the psychological profile! He has big plans to fight the New York Times . He has big plans to fight Google. And he could win both. John Koblin puts a number on the Wall Street Journal ’s recently announced plans to move into New York City metro coverage: $15 million. “You could drive a truck through the space between the wonderfully titillating tabloids and the perceived self-seriousness of The Times,” says one PR man in the NYO... Google Caves to Murdoch, Adds New Options for Publishers

From:  mashable.com
As newspapers and old media companies have seen their revenues shrink , they have essentially done one of two things: found ways to embrace the web or blamed Google for their problems . Slime: Rupert Murdoch, Diane Savino, Et al

While I do not think New York Governor David Patterson is an effective governor and hope someone else takes the helm after the next election, recent statements using the fact the governor is blind as an attack target are beyond disgusting.  Rupert Murdoch, a man who makes shit look like a shiny piece of gold by comparison, said Patterson is "blind and can't read Braille and doesn't really know what's going on."  According to Reuters, State Senator Democrat Diane Savino said Patterson’s...
