Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation is dedicated to providing disadvantaged urban youth with significant exposure and access to the arts.
Russell Simmons was involved in the creation of Rush. "The Rush Foundation was my brother's idea," says Simmons. "He's an artist. I know that a lot of us survived the inner-city because of a chance to practice who we are.
"The Rush Foundation is to help the underserved communities, because schools had cut out all of the (arts) programs. Creativity is a very important part of the education process. School is a prison if you don't cultivate creativity.

Jungle Island in Miami was all bedecked and bejeweled for Russell Simmons fund raiser on Saturday night. The event raised funds for the Rush Philanthropic Foundation. Tables went for $10,000 to $15,000 each, and individual tickets $1000 each.
Honoring John Legend, Suze Orman, and R. Donahue Peebles, the event had a tropical theme. Guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers outside at the start of the evening.
Founded in 1995 by brothers Russell, Danny and Joseph Simmons, Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation is dedicated to providing disadvantaged urban youth with significant exposure and access to the arts, as well as providing exhibition opportunities to under-represented artists and artists of color. The Rush Community Grants Program annually provides direct funding to over 70 nonprofit organizations that offer education programming in all disciplines of the arts to New York City and Palm Beach County youth.
The organization is currently in a fund raising campaign for an 11,000 square-foot arts education and resource center it will open next year in East New York, Brooklyn. The building was a gift from Ron Hershco of United Homes.
Guests bid on a generous array of luxury goods and services via silent auction. Jason Fishbein bids on some artwork.
The interior was glamorous and scented with tropical flowers.
