Ryan Moats Accepts Apology From Officer

NFL running back Ryan Moats made headlines recently when he was detained by a Dallas police officer for running a red light and speeding to the hospital to visit his dying mother-in-law.

Ryan and wife Tamisha appeared on Good Morning America Monday to say they would accept the apology from officer Robert Powell, but that they hoped the apology was sincere. Powell detained Moats for 20 minutes while Tamisha ran inside the hospital to see her dying mother. In a dashboard cam video of the incident, Moats is seen trying to explain the situation to the officer, who tells Moats to "shut his mouth" and find his proof of insurance.

Ryan and Tamisha told GMA host Robin Roberts that despite claims to the contrary, the officer drew his gun and pointed it at the couple as they arrived at the hospital.

"My wife was the first one to exit the car, and I really didn't realize what was going on at the time," Moats said. "Once I got out, I realized it was pretty serious, and I was afraid for her because he was pointing the gun at her."

Officer Powell was placed on administrative leave Thursday for his inappropriate behavior. He has issued an apology that says "With great remorse I accept my responsibility for adding to their grief in an already difficult time." (Read full apology here)

Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle expressed his dismay at Powell's actions as well.

"I am embarrassed and disappointed by the behavior of officer Robert Powell," Kunkle said. "His behavior, in my opinion, did not exhibit the common sense, the discretion, the compassion, we expect our officers to exhibit."
