Pencil image scanned from Sketchbook #92 I am not that pencil straight and true Or the picture Shade and texture drew And I am not the dropped one ...broken, brittle It just flew from finger onto floor Nor am I pack fresh and brand new Not sharpened like a jewel Or snapped in two Or whittled and tossed away all together I am the artist, spinning a yarn in pencil Text inspired by a poem called THE PENCIL by PAM PUSSYCAT For a copy of the poem contact sharemyart@gmail.com

March 2005. Ceri invited us over to her house in Birstall for drinks and nibbles. Its was the Easter Holidays so we jumped at the chance for a get together. When we arrived, Colin and Nikola were already there, sat in the lounge, sipping drinks. Ceri had been running around all morning preparing the food, which was delicious as always. Steve shared his birthday stories, opened cards and gifts, we gave a brief review of our trip to the theatre, in Manchester the previous day. Antony...

The Screen in 2 halves. Looking like a huge number eleven on the eleventh. Side by side. A pair. How did it happen? Nikola and I hid behind the screen to surprise? After a couple of screams and a slight loss of balance we fell on the Screen. The central spine of the screen unzipped as we stumbled upon it. Ironically it was us who glued together the original join, almost a year ago. And now I am evaluating a pair of screens. The imapct you have on my art is unfathomable. I won't dwell upon the...

To finish it off, I added a caption which is a play on words. I enjoy adding captions or using poetry in my work. It adds a narrative and engages the viewer, or invites them to consider a message related to the image. This can be suggestive, provocative, or sometime obvious. What is happening when an image is captured by the retina? That brief moment where the viewer accepts the presentation, configures the image, adds it to the other 20 million or so that their eyes have already collected...

Modern art is defined as any type of artwork that has been created during the 20th century (and, of course, the opening years of the 21st century). It can be found in paintings, sculpture, and photography, as well as other genres. Modern art paintings encompass all areas of the color spectrum. A piece of artwork may be so rich in color that one could study it for hours and still not see every color and shade that the artist used, or the starkest of black and white lines and shading. Another...

This pencil drawing is an adaptation of a photograph of a famous artist. Can you guess who? I originally included other artists in the sketch, over working and spontaneous scribbles meant erasing the other figures. The combination of textures and smudges results in a mysterious scene. For example, the contrast of tones between the apparel, the face and the black tie. The black smudge on the the textile background. The image sits well with the poem:- Twins. Everything I have done, you have...

30/04/91 Who is he? He's a painter, a sculptor or an animator. He's in his final year. A woollen hunters hat he wears with peacock feathers, up and down the college corridors . Bongos are his instrument , he's in a jamming band. Last night I hearkened to his rhythmic fingers striking mayhem. The bongo skin flinched. I saw his eyes, I read his mind. I saw him linger, undress the limber. He gave the show away. See me see you see him! I've heard this one before. Clap and stamp, flicker. Echo...

I think this collage rocks. Hey, this page has been hidden for 16 years in Sketchbook #92. Now released, transposed, revealed, published. Looking back I'm trying to recollect how the component parts of the collage originated? There was an obvious communication by postcard from Tenerife . (John.) A wax rubbing. Some red tape. The title, 'Geometric communion.' is down to the square of blue sky. And the triangles - right angled.
