Google is on fire once again, announcing features and products left and right. Last in line is an “ Insert Drawing” option in Google Docs, which lets you create simple vector graphics directly inside your Google documents. It lets you draw using lines, free hand scribbles, text labels, as well as a large choice predetermined shapes, which you can resize, move, rotate and adjust. Here’s a quick round-the-web series of updates on happenings with SVG, Canvas, and open web graphics libraries. In this paper we will create a small vector drawing application with SVG, and a small pixel drawing application with Canvas. Then we will swap platforms: we'll create a pixel drawing application with SVG, and a vector drawing application with Canvas. This experiment gives useful info on the limits of both techniques.
