Sacha Kljestan missed a penalty kick in second-half injury time, and Chivas USA settled for a 1-all draw with the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night. Chivas (11-9-5) was awarded the penalty kick when Red Bulls defender Andrew Boyens was whistled for a handball in the box by referee Alex Prus. With goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul diving the wrong way, though, Klejstan sent a low shot from the 12-yard spot barely wide of the left post. The draw left Chivas in a tie with Seattle for fourth in the Western Conference and sixth overall with 38 points. The top two teams in each conference ... Read Full Story

Galaxy 0 Chivas USA 0 The Galaxy have had the better of this game so far and by all rights should be leading. A 25-yard Chris Klein volley from a Landon Donovan cross in the 35th minute was perhaps the best Galaxy chance, requiring as it did an agile punch by Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton to send it over the bar. David Beckham should have at least got the ball on the frame a minute earlier, but sent his 19-yard shot wastefully over the bar when he was wide open and had plenty of time to set the shot up. Chivas USA's best ... Read Full Story

Chicago Fire 1 Chivas USA 0 Game story Another drab, missed opportunity for Chivas USA. They are masters of the bleeding obvious over at Chivas USA public relations, BTW: Chivas USA now owns a record of 13-10-6 (W-L-T), and remains tied atop the Western Conference with the Houston Dynamo and the LA Galaxy with 45 points. All three teams have just one remaining match, with the Red-and-White hosting Houston on Sunday, and the LA Galaxy hosting San Jose on Saturday. Chivas USA can only finish first in the division if it does better than both Houston and LA this weekend. No kidding. Highlights (such ... Read Full Story

Eduardo Lillingston scored in the 38th minute to give Chivas USA a 1-0 victory over Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday night. Zach Thornton made three saves to earn his MLS-leading seventh shutout for Chivas USA (8-2-3), which snapped a three-game winless streak and extended the expansion Sounders' winless streak to six. Seattle dropped to 4-3-5. Lillingston scored after teammate Paulo Nagamura took a 7-yard shot that goalkeeper Kasey Keller blocked while sliding toward the left post. An unmarked Lillingston tapped the ball into the open net from 4 yards. Freddie Ljungberg had the best chance to tie the score but Thornton jumped to his ... Read Full Story
