One of the most recognized symbols of the American desert is the saguaro cactus, and that fact makes those multi-armed giants attractive targets for thieves. Excellent work by rangers at Saguaro National Park and great cooperation from the U. S. Attorney's office have resulted in hefty sentences for two cactus poachers who were caught in the act.

Steve Blomquist, one of several neighbors suing Saguaro Ranch developer Stephen Phinny and the town of Marana (see first blog here), put out this to get his message across, asking holiday shoppers to reconsider where they spend their money and if they want those sales taxes to benefit Marana.

On Thursday, The Range mentioned a Marana Town Council meeting during which neighbors of the Saguaro Ranch development announced they'd filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit against the town and staff. In an update, we also mentioned neighbors' concern over Town Manager Gilbert Davidson showing up at the development's restaurant to a champagne toast—two days after the arrest of neighbor Steve Blomquist.
