Salmon Fishing

Those early fall Chinook being caught in the lower Klamath and Rogue rivers right now tend to have small skeins of eggs, and while fresh roe is hard to come by for salmon fishing, putting the eggs away for steelhead season is like saving money in the bank.  

Though ocean fishing is closed off the southern Washington coast, waters to the north are now open for salmon fishing seven days a week.  

Saltwater salmon fishing slows down, and now anglers are concentrating their time in the estuaries, bays and lower rivers where chinook and coho are staging before heading up to spawn. Catches have been relatively good in some spots.

Steelhead and chinook fishing hasn't been spectacular anywhere in Western Washington this week. Catches of both species have been fair for the most part, but anglers had to put in extra work for their catches.  

The king salmon fishery is starting to wind down in Puget Sound, but some early coho action is building mainly around the Sekiu area. Farther into Puget Sound the peak of the king salmon fishery appears to have passed, and there isn't much in the way of coho just yet.
