"Touted as a return to Sam Raimi's horror-movie roots, Drag Me to Hell is indeed closer in spirit to the director's Evil Dead pictures than to his Spider-Man films. You got your gypsy gargoyles with rotted dentures, your upchucking corpses, your flexible two-way orifices--yes, Raimi's definitely back in the saddle. There's even a story: a sad loan officer (Alison Lohman) turns down the aforementioned denture-wearing gypsy for a loan extension, which leads to an evil curse and a date in hell in three days' time. A séance, an animal sacrifice, and a session in a storm-tossed graveyard will make the 72 hours pass very ... Read Full Story

On 11.08.09, In Movies , by Roque . Next year, Sam Raimi will be on top again! He’s directing “Spiderman 4” in 2010 for a 2011 release, which will follow “The Evil Dead” (his “Evil Dead” reboot) scheduled for release next year. Add his helming of sword-slashing epic “Warcraft” and it’s clear that people are soon to forgive him for the sins he committed on “Spider-man 3”. Redemption is possible they say. The Evil Dead Trilogy. If you say those words to any self-respecting horror fan, they’re guaranteed to mention two names – Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi. Army of Darkness came out in 1992, and since then director Raimi has been increasing his presence in Hollywood cinema, from the good ( A Simple Plan / The Quick and The Dead ) to the not-so-good ( Spiderman 3 / The Gift ). What he hasn’t done since is make a full-on horror film. So when Raimi announced Drag Me to Hell , directed and written by Raimis (Ivan co-writes), it led to high expectations and many ... During the Halloween season, there is one movie I go back to for a good scare, and a few laughs thrown in for good measure, and that is the Evil Dead Trilogy (okay that is three, but who’s counting). Unfortunate the creative mind behind those movies Sam Raimi has been too busy playing with boys in tights the last decade to do anything in the horror genre this decade until he squeaked one in at the end with Drag Me to Hell . First off, Bruce Campbell who was the lead in the Evil Dead movies and cameos in all three Spider-Man movies as ... Read Full Story

Sam Raimi likes to be in control. And if he wants to make a film he can truly stand behind, he simply needs to be in control. "The best way for me to move forward on films," the director once said, "is that I've got to be the singular voice that makes the creative choices [...]

Sam Raimi is best known as the man behind the "Spiderman" franchise, but he's also widely regarded as a master of the macabre and of horror. After all, he broke through in 1981 with "The Evil Dead" after fixating on horror movies as a child. Before age 10, he was making 8-mm home movies. "I was always attracted to strong actions. I like strong reactions," he notes quietly. "Subtle comedy wasn't my thing. The Three Stooges, that was my thing...
