My new best friend The Hollywood Reporter reports that the release date of next year's eagerly anticipated entry in the Spiderman saga has been pushed back from May 6th following clashes between director Sam Raimi and Sony. Raimi is apparently pushing for The Vulture to be the main villain in the film while Sony is apparently keen on a romantic subplot involving Black Cat. Raimi reportedly wanted to feature The Vulture in the third Spiderman...

I dunno what's the matter with the Sony executives, Sam Raimi has done a pretty damn good job with the three Spider-man films (even tho' the third was a bit over-crowded). Why mess with perfection? I still would like to see the Lizard as well as the Vulture. .... And you know what? That was all Raimi's doing. I'd rather they not make Spider-man 4, or bring in a director that isn't stuck in the 1960's comic books. Do a Kraven's Last Hunt movie...

I hate to make comparisons, but they are exceedingly apt in this case. One of the best movies of the year, in my book at least, was "District 9." Rejoice, ye fans of Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi! A month ago, Grindhouse Pictures announced that it would re-release the 1981 cult horror-comedy The Evil Dead back into theaters in 2010.
