Watch the DC Council legalize gay marriage in Washington [video]

SHOT OF THE DAY Our shot of the day comes from Tuesday's City Council meeting in Washington, DC in which the members voted to legalize gay marriage in the nation's capitol.  The mayor says he will sign the bill into law. As we told you then, the measure still has to be approved by Congress.  However, Congress did not act when the same council voted to recognize same sex marriages performed outside the District.  Many believe that any action by Congress will automatically create a national... Gay couples blast federal Defense of Marriage Act

From:  ap.org
Gay married couples suing the government over a federal law that doesn't recognize same-sex unions say there is "no legitimate or plausible" reason for having a federal definition of marriage that excludes gay couples. The lawsuit was brought by seven gay couples and three widowers, all of whom were married in Massachusetts after it became the first state in the country to legalize gay marriage in 2004. In court documents filed Tuesday, the couples say the federal Defense of Marriage Act... Read Full Story

Mormons throw support behind gay-rights cause

From:  ap.org
It looked like a stunning reversal: the same church that helped defeat gay marriage in California standing with gay-rights activists on an anti-discrimination law in its own backyard. On Tuesday night, after a series of clandestine meetings between local gay-rights backers and Mormons in Salt Lake City, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced it would support proposed city laws that would prohibit discrimination against gays in housing and employment. The ordinances passed... Read Full Story

D.C. Passed Gay Marriage!

Same-sex marriage is coming to our nation's capital. The city council just passed the measure for the second time in less than a month. The bill will now go to the Mayor for his signature, which he has promised. After a 30 day Congressional review, the signed bill will become law with same-sex marriages beginning in March 2010. This of course, is providing that Congress doesn't intervene, which it is not expected to do. This is another victory in the marriage equality fight. After taking a... Read Full Story

Gay marriage momentum stalls in liberal NY, NJ

From:  outgaylife.com
(Mount Laurel, NJ) The state-to-state march to legalize gay marriage across the left-leaning Northeast has lost more momentum since a major setback three weeks ago at the ballot box in Maine. Since then, legislatures in New York and New Jersey have failed to schedule long-expected votes on bills to recognize the unions in those states. “If they are unable to pass gay marriage in New York and New Jersey, combined with the loss in Maine, it will confirm that gay marriage is not the...
