It was exactly five years ago today that Digg went live as a simple site where you could vote on your favorite content from around the web. (Here is our initial profile from over 4 years ago.) They've grown a lot since then, to over 40 million monthly visitors and 80 employees, founder Kevin Rose writes today.
But perhaps more impressive is that for their fifth birthday, Digg received quite the gift from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom: An...

Watch SFAppeal's Eve Batey and your SFist editor pick the brain tissue of admitted cyclist Jackson West to find out more about cycling -- specifically, the bike injunction/work happening.
And since neither host employs the use of a bicycle to commute around the city -- when our driver calls in sick, we simply cab it! -- today will surely be a meeting of the minds. Those of you with biking prowess, though, are urged to watch and ask...

The ridiculous and unfounded war on SF's all-ages music venues continues. Threats have gotten serious. Accusations ridiculous. A litany of SF's problems (think murder and violent crime) have all been blamed on all-age venues such as Slim's, Cafe Du Nord and the Great American Music Hall. Clearly, rock, jazz, folk and bluegrass are dangerous for our youth. A vocal group of ultra-conservative neighbors have gotten their panties in a bundle and...
