'Roseanne' Star Sara Gilbert Is Here To Remind You 'The Conners Aren't Trump Supporters'
In reality, she said, Roseanne is the only Trump supporter in the household.
Roseanne might be a Trump supporter, but that doesn't mean the rest of the Conner family is on the same page. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, series executive producer and star, Sara Gilbert, made it clear that the Conners should not be considered a Trump-supporting household — and that's why viewers will never hear his name on the show.
"The Conners aren’t Trump supporters," Gilbert said. "Roseanne's character is a Trump supporter. She's the only one. And we never say his name, actually, in the show."
Gilbert (who plays Darlene) went on to remind fans that, despite how politicized it's become, the sitcom is really about a family.
"It's not about anyone's position or a policy," she said. "It's really about what happens to a family when there’s a political divide, which is something that I think the entire country can relate to, and something we need to talk about. With our show, it’s never about 'doing an issue' or 'doing politics.' It's, how do these things affect a family unit?"
As of Friday, March 30, Roseanne was renewed for a second season. While only two episodes of the revival had aired by then, the premiere was so popular, it seems ABC is sold.
