Sarabeth Spitzer

Sarabeth Spitzer is Eliot Spitzer's youngest daughter. Her dad is now involved in a prostitution scandal that forced his resignation as governor of New York. Follow the Spitzer scandal and learn more about the Spitzer family.

Yesterday Eliot Spitzer had an excellent op-ed, about AIG, in the New York Times. Hendrik Hertzberg, at the New Yorker, praised it. No-one mentioned his sex scandal. Here's what he did right, and what Tiger Woods is doing wrong. Woods' media management errors were best outlined by John Cassidy, also at the New Yorker. But Spitzer's recovery has been nothing short of miraculous. It was revealed that he had sex with a hooker less than two years...

In today's New York Times former New York Attorney General and Gov. Eliot Spitzer suggests one surefire way to find out the story behind the September 2008 deal that saved American International Group and, arguably, bailed out Goldman Sachs and other major banks: make public the emails that passed between these parties. Not a bad idea. As Spitzer, a former prosecutor and current blogger put it: "Once the documents are available for everyone to...

Inquiring minds want to know ... where's the inquiry? Three prominent former prosecutors are calling for the government to make AIG release internal emails that could cast light on the insurance giant's collapse, which ended with a $180 billion government bailout and gave taxpayers 80% ownership of the company. Giving the public access to the information would allow for a unique "open source" investigation and provide many answers about AIG...

After the Post's report that Eliot Spitzer allegedly is considering running for State Comptroller in 2010, the Observer's Steve Kornacki ponders the possibility: "Let's suppose he is. His chances of winning would be small and further embarrassment - for himself and for his family - would be almost certain, but as one elected official put it on Thursday, 'The guy's nuts, so who knows?' Still, the broad consensus among political insiders is...

Dear Eliot Spitzer, I am writing to offer my condolences for your current troubles and to offer what help I can. Like you I was once caught in an illicit ring — a vicious circle of guilt and self-pollution that lasted ten years and cost me over $15,000 in lube and dry-cleaning. I suffered the curse of Onan and I could find no way out. I tried psychoanalysis, but after three years of treatment I was still suffering from an agonizing Carmen Electra Complex and gave up in despair. Then, when I thought I would never find my way out of the “jerk-circle” as ... Read Full Story

Fathoming the mysteries of other people's marriages is a fool's game. But we are entitled to try to understand what short-circuits occur in people of power to drive them to such jaw-dropping recklessness. First because it happens so often and second because with Spitzer the ironies and the wild hypocrisies are too large to ignore. His sanctimony upon taking office was undiluted. Among his first acts: the forcing out of office of the just re-elected state comptroller Alan Hevesi (also a friend) because he had used a state car and chauffeur to drive his ailing wife around. How does that look now? Lust or ... Read Full Story

Well, the other shoe dropped. It took a couple of days, but that naughty Eliot Spitzer finally abdicated his position as the governor of New York in the wake of the biggest personal scandal to afflict a politician since a certain blue dress . You know the story by now. Client 9 , as Spitzer was allegedly known within the alleged Emperor’s Club prostitution ring, allegedly arranged for an alleged $1,000-an-hour working woman (identified as “Kristen”) to be allegedly transported across state lines. If true, that’s a violation of the Mann Act , a felony. The FBI was nosing around Spitzer, initially thinking they ... Read Full Story

"A French-born New Yorker who is a headhunter for Luxe Avenue, Laurent Guerrier, said Mr. Spitzer's scandal would be in a class by itself on either side of the Atlantic. 'The Spitzer case is a deep problem because the guy was seen as Mr. Clean and was supposed to use his position to enforce against prostitution,' Mr. Guerrier said yesterday. 'In a similar situation in France, it would have been a big thing also.'" [NY Sun] 26 Vote(s) Read Full Story
