Scientology is an American body of teachings developed by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. It's a particularly controversial movement, as many former members of the Church of Scientology have claimed its practices are coercive and isolating. Celebrity Scientologists include Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, and many others.
Just put a sheaf of Monthly Review's in a bookshelf that contains, among other things, Scientology pamphlets about faith healing that I got from the "L. Ron Hubbard Life Experience Museum" in L.A. A new book claims the Top Gun star had a tendency to chat to ashtrays, bottles and other inanimate objects Just a teeny tiny amount of space left to say, hey, guess what? Tom Cruise? He's a bit fricking weird! Yuhdoansay. In Blown For Good, the latest book by an escapee from the Galactic Confederacy, AKA Scientology, Marc Headley claims that Cruise would talk to inanimate objects "for hours". No, not Nicole Kidman's face, but ashtrays, bottles...

The attack on the Church of Scientology as a ''criminal organisation'' by the South Australian senator Nick Xenophon this week has sent the anti-Scientology movement into a spin but not for the obvious reason. Apart from celebrating the prospect of an Australian parliamentary inquiry into allegations of murder, rape and forced abortion by church members, anti-church activists in the US are relishing the similarities between the senator's...

Draw near, infidels, for these are dark days for the Knights of Hubbard. Do not despair entirely the Church of Scientology remains insanely rich, has excellent and rapacious lawyers, and according to the International Scientology News, "every minute of every hour, someone reaches for L Ron Hubbard technology
simply because they know Tom Cruise is a Scientologist". So unless the world's supply of troubled fools is melting away quicker than...

Filed under: Religion, DisputationsIt's been a tough stretch for Scientology. The church founded by the late science fiction writer (and great prophet/odd duck/complete kook -- take your pick) L. Ron Hubbard in 1953 was dinged nearly a million bucks by a Paris court on Tuesday after convicting six leaders of the French branch of Scientology of organized fraud in duping recruits out of lots of money. Of course, given the number of high...

Sea Organization or Sea Org is a sort of "religious order" within Scientology where only the most committed members of the late L. Ron Hubbard's cult live out their lives. For the unborn child of a mother in Sea Org, that isn't very long. They are aborted.
