TOO HOT TUESDAY!! BABY NEW YEAR (AKA JAKE SHEARS OF THE SCISSOR SISTERS)

My, how time does fly! It seems like 2007 just began, and here it is 2008 already. With the first day of this new year falling on a Tuesday, I felt it only appropriate that Baby New Year himself help us ring January 1, 2008 in with style on this Too Hot Tuesday!!

Our sexy Baby New Year is none other than Jake Shears (born Jason Sellards), male lead vocalist and co-founder of music group Scissor Sisters.

The core band formed in 2000 in New York City. Since that time, the Scissor Sisters have had incredible success in Europe, particularly in the U.K, where their eponymous debut album currently ranks as the 10th biggest selling album of the 21st century. While they have had some moderate success in the United States, especially among the GLBT community, they are still not especially well-known to the general public here in their home country. I was fortunate to be tipped off to the band by a glowing review in ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY a few years back. I have been a major fan since. Derrick and I were even fortunate enough to catch them live in concert this past April in Houston. What an incredible show!! (Jake is not the only hottie in the group btw, bass guitarist Del Marquis is also quite the looker. And, from what I understand, Shears' fellow band co-founder Babydaddy has quite a following in the "Bear Community".)

Jake is known for his provocative dancing, flamboyant outfits, and occasional near nudity while performing in concert. (He certainly didn't disappoint when we saw him . . . strutting onto the stage in an electric blue skinny cut suit emblazoned with Mickey Mouse heads!). Jake (who is openly gay) apparently worked as a Go-Go boy and male exotic dancer in the gay-oriented strip clubs of NYC back in the day, and certainly picked up a move or two there that he brings to his performances to this day.

Jake's musical influences include ABBA, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Roxy Music, The New York Dolls, Queen, Madonna, and Dolly Parton. Jake and his "other sisters" are even rumored to be working on a song with Dolly that might be included on their next album (anticipated sometime around 2009). Jeez, 2008 just started, and now I am already eagerly anticipating 2009 for that reason alone! Oh well. I'm sure there will be plenty of great times between now and then to help the new year pass. I will be sure to enjoy every possible moment, as much as I hope you have enjoyed these pics of Jake!
