A community portal about Scissor Sisters with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: The Scissor Sisters are an American band who formed in 2001, whose style draws from disco, glam-rock/pop and the gay -club scene of New York City. The group were named after a sex position between two women, and their initial full name was'Dead Lesbian and the Fibrillating Scissor Sisters'.

Slicin’ It Up On The Dance Floor With Scissor Sisters

The American glam-band, Scissor Sisters’ debut self-titled CD begins with a track entitled, “Laura” with an opening piano line that makes one expect to hear Dolly Parton break into her “9 to 5″ hit from many years ago.

Formed in 2001 with five members (four male, one female), Scissor Sisters draw their upbeat sound from disco, pop, and club music. While experiencing some success at home in the U.S., (including a Grammy nomination nod), Scissor Sisters, like many bands, have found more success in Europe. A number of their songs have hit the UK charts and have also found popularity in the club scene here and abroad.

The 2004 release of their debut, Scissor Sisters, contains some notable tracks, while the entire disc is well worth a spin. The second track, “Take Your Mama” sounds like a 1970’s Elton John pop hit and I was quite surprised at the band’s club-like take on Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” (which may make some serious Floyd fans unhappy with its dance track style).

Obviously capable of creating danceable music while using some more controversial topic matter, (drug abuse, gay-themed, and sexuality in general), Scissor Sisters also effectively pulls off the more somber song as in “Mary” - an affectionate ode to lead singer Jake Shears’ best friend - who later died of an aneurysm.

Final track, “Return To Oz” has echos of Electric Light Orchestra’s harmonic vocalizing near its end. There is an interesting analysis at the following link regarding, “Return To Oz”, and its connections between characters from the movie of the same name and crystal meth drug abuse in the gay community. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_to_Oz_(song) According to the popular Wikipedia online encyclopedia website, Scissor Sisters is listed as one of the 1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die from the book of the same name, edited by Robert Dimiry. I, personally, found it an interesting listen. But only the individual listener can be the judge.
