Catcher Jason Varitek exercised his $3 million option to stay with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, choosing to remain with the team as a backup to Victor Martinez rather than become a free agent. While Mets fans argue about the value of Alex Cora, Jeff Francoeur’s OPS, and how Mike Cameron is a solid secondary option Omar Minaya at least is starting the process of gauging Matt Holliday’s market value. According to Joel Sherman Minaya is meeting with Scott Boras tonight. Many anticipate the Holliday negotiations to drag until Christmas; much like Mark Teixeira last year and have already indicated they have a backup plan if Holliday flees. I believe the Mets best chance of landing the slugger is to set the market with an aggressive, yet not overpriced, offer. Personally the max I would go is 7 ... Read Full Story

From this morning's Los Angeles Times, Scott Boras unveils his grand plan to improve the World Series. Let me guess, Boras also wants to raise the drinking age to 35 and have 6 work days in the week instead of 5. Agent Scott Boras was interviewed for the June edition of Playboy and was asked how he would change the World Series. Boras replied: "I'd modernize it, make it five out of nine games, with the first two in a neutral city. Announce the MVP and Cy Young awards at a gala held between the playoffs and a new World Series weekend. Move the ... Read Full Story
