Scott Kalitta crashed at 300 mph and died in the crash. Scott Kalitta will be missed by many motor sports fans. Scott is survived by his father; his wife, Kathy; and sons Corey, 14, and Colin, 8.
A year ago, tragedy struck the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) world when drag racing star Scott Kalitta was killed in a fiery accident at the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.
This weekend will see tributes and a minute of silence held in remembrance of Kalitta. In the year since his death, and in an effort to prevent similar accidents occurring in the future, various safety upgrades have been introduced.

On 25 May 2008, a Boeing 747 of Kalitta Air crashed on take-off from Brussels Airport. The wreckage ended up quite close to the Brussels - Leuven railway line.
