1998, the year Corey and I graduated high school, the year the Philadelphia Phillies finished a dismal 75-87. At the helm was current BoSox manager Terry Francona. Although it was only 10 seasons ago, there are only 6 players still active in MLB (Scott Rolen, Bobby Abreu, Marlon Anderson, Gary Bennett, Paul Byrd, and Curt Schilling). Take a stroll down memory lane with me now as we gaze into the Phils team of 1998. Lineup: Catcher- Recently retired Mike Lieberthal split time behind the plate with roid-boy Bobby Estalella, Mark "Hey, You're Not My" Parent, and the previously mentioned Gary Bennett. Lieby's stats- 39 ... Read Full Story

Several major league sources have confirmed that the St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to send third baseman Scott Rolen to the Toronto Blue Jays for third baseman Troy Glaus. Rolen has been on the trading block ever since having a falling out with future Hall of Fame manager Tony LaRussa this past season. In order for the Cards to accept the deal, Glaus had to agree to extend his $11.25 million option for 2009. Since Rolen had three years left on his deal, the Cardinals were not going to trade away three years of security at that position in exchange for one. This deal ... Read Full Story

While Scott Rolen is still in the "honeymoon" stage with the Reds, I will be evaluating him on a 40-game season. His hitting is better than average, which should be expected for a .284 lifetime hitter. He didn't exhibit the power that I was so hopeful he would. Three home runs in a quarter of the season make it elementary enough to do the math; 12 home runs would not cut it for a corner infielder. He had a decent OBP as well at .364. With the...

Eating crow is a fine meal when it benefits one's team.  Scott Rolen has been nothing short of fantastic since joining the Reds.  And all I did was whine and complain when first hearing the trade rumors.  There are times I love being wrong. After one hit in his first 13 at bats, Rolen has hit a solid .289 as a Red.  A far cry from Edwin Encarnacion who is currently batting .216 with the Jays. Defensively, unlike most, I never had anything...

Johnny Cueto had one last shot at finishing .500. Joey Votto and Scott Rolen got him there. Votto homered and drove in three runs and Rolen homered as the Cincinnati Reds took advantage of Zach Duke's control problems for an 8-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night. Cueto (11-11) rebounded from a rough first inning to get the win in his last start of the season. He allowed five hits and four runs with four walks and six...
