Glaus to be Traded to Cardinals for Rolen
Several major league sources have confirmed that the St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to send third baseman Scott Rolen to the Toronto Blue Jays for third baseman Troy Glaus. Rolen has been on the trading block ever since having a falling out with future Hall of Fame manager Tony LaRussa this past season.

In order for the Cards to accept the deal, Glaus had to agree to extend his $11.25 million option for 2009. Since Rolen had three years left on his deal, the Cardinals were not going to trade away three years of security at that position in exchange for one.
This deal is a better deal for St. Louis than it is for Toronto. The Cards are dealing away Rolen who has been a disruption and is also injury prone. In exchange they are getting a guy who is one year younger, is an everyday player, and will consistantly hit 20-30 home runs. I’m not sold on Rolen still having productive years still ahead of him. Glaus had mior foot surgury this off season and his name has circulated in talks relating to the use of human growth hormone (HGH). Overall this trade will probably get more press than it deserves seeing as both of these guys have issues and their numbers are on the decline.
Pending phyicals, this deal is done.
